You will see major usability improvements in HCL Leap 9.2. The product provides an updated look with many improvements to make building applications easier. A goal of this releases is to make it easier for users to tap into the power of Leap. It has always been a powerful product, but some aspects have not been as simple as they could be. With the new release many things have become easier to do. Future releases will continue down this path as we strive to simplify the user experience for different areas of Leap. Notable enhancements in Leap 9.2 are listed below. Checkout the What’s new with HCL Leap 9.2 application in the sandbox for a more visual run down of what’s in the release.
New getting started experience – Leap 9.2 provides a dialog to guide you through the options involved with building an application. Initially the choices include creating an application from scratch and creating an application from a spreadsheet. Over time this dialog will be enhanced as we add templates, custom themes and the ability to create applications from other data sources. Create an application from spreadsheet – Users can create Leap applications from Excel spreadsheets. Leap will build the application based on spreadsheet data which is in a table format. The spreadsheet table column headers become the Leap field names and the data is imported. Spreadsheets with multiple tables can be used to generate applications with multiple Leap forms. Column width size indicator – a small popup appears when you go to change the width of a column showing the width in pixels. This makes it easier to set columns to equal width. Double click items to edit properties – You can now double click any item to edit its properties. This is in addition to the cogwheel icon which continues to work. Are you sure you want to delete? – Leap 9.2 will ask you this question when attempting to delete Sections or Tabbed Folders with content. It will also ask this question when attempting to delete an Action (submit) which has Activities (email, service call) associated with it. New palette – Icons are all new and the palette is responsive. The result is a much cleaner easier to use design experience. Send attachments with email notifications – Any attachment in the form can now be included in email notifications. This includes filled PDFs which can saved as an attachment with the form. New Rule logical operators – Two new operators – has value and has no value- have been added. This greatly simplifies setting rules in situations when you want a desired behavior based on whether or not a value has been entered into a field. New filters for View Results and Data Access API – Leap 9.2 allows you to filter data based on a whether a field has value. The new filters – has value and has no value – let you zero in on records with or without values in a certain field. Print View enhancements – Print View now provides an option to toggle tables from a horizontal orientation to vertical. This is useful when attempting to print wide tables. By toggling the table to vertical it becomes easier to fit the table onto the print page. Print View html is now instrumented with ID’s in for each item. This allows you to grab items and manipulate them for customization purposes. Print View also support any Data Label properties you set for items. Improved logging for failed service calls – Leap will now log the response code, the response status message and the response body for failed service calls. This improvement provides the information you need to understand why a call is failing. Attachment cleanup service is configurable – By default orphaned attachments are removed after 48 hours. With Leap 9.2 you can configure the hours if desired.
